My Crappy Day

They say that having pets in your home can do all kinds of wonderful things for your mental well being, health, and overall disposition. When they publish these kinds of articles, they often forget to mention that these adorable balls of fur are a constant source of amusement, frustration, and mess, all rolled into a sweet slobbery package.

The Dynamic Duo

We have two dogs, both adorable and full of…

…personality. We have Kenai, a somewhere between five and seven year old Australian Kelpie mix, and Cooper, a 75 pound 10 month old Golden Retriever pup.

Kenai

Last week, my not-so-little Cooper ate the stuffing from one of his toys, and apparently had a hard time getting it out.
He bounded into the house after some outside playtime in his usual exuberant way, but kept looking at his backside, as if something were biting him. I called him into the kitchen to see what he had dragged in with him this time. (Cooper tends to “collect” things from our yard and bring them in with him, through various methods of transport. He is very furry, very curious, and likes to hide things in his mouth -the possibilities are endless.)
As I approached him, he started getting very squirmy. He looked nervous, and suddenly started standing up, sitting down, standing again, repeatedly, on my brand new wood floors. As he stood and moved to sit again, I noticed that he was leaving a spot behind every time he stood back up.

CooperCooper, and the new floor

I’m sure you can see where this is going.

I wrangled him to the floor, lifted his tail, and was greeted by the largest hanger-on I’ve ever seen. I gagged, he looked violated, we decided that eye contact should be avoided for a little while.

He worried, I worked out a plan that seemed to allow the least amount of pain for all parties involved. (The pup, me, my new flooring, you get the point)

The tub.

When I finally calmed him enough to drag him to the tub, I started hosing him down like normal, talking to him the whole time, trying to keep him calm and as un-disturbed as possible. Apparently calm and un-disturbed wasn’t part of his plan. I went to grab some soap, and maybe gag a little, and he jumped out of the tub. He took one look at my wide eyes (and I swore he snickered. Out loud. Right in my face.) and proceeded to shake -splattering soapy, soaking wet poo ALL OVER my bathroom walls.

This is the first time I’ve read your blog Erin. You know that saying about one chance to make a first impression? Yeah, well…. :-P

Yeah… I battled over posting this, lol.
Good thing I met you in person BEFORE you found this. Right? **crosses fingers**
Just a little insight, that’ll help everyone make more sense of the crazy that is me.

Yeah, meeting in person (and Tweets) helped soften the “poop” encounter. ;-)

Haha, thank you.
And please note that the dog, my person, and my house have been thoroughly scrubbed and scoured. It was a rough day. Put lots in perspective though!

Everything About Flooring December 17, 2008 at 10:05 pm

Hardwood flooring installation can be an arduous and time consuming job, but if you feel comfortable giving it a try, you may potentially end up saving quite a bit of money.
